What is a BVD?
A BVD is a Bingo Verifying Diva and one of the best parts of Gay Bingo – everyone loves you and you are the entertainment! You will help make sure the fun happens – you are one of the stars of the show – outside of our hostess Mimosa LaBouche (or MLB as we call her).
You will be dressed in drag and will be responsible for your own costumes, wig and heels along with attending weekly practices where the dance routines will be learned (roughly three routines are performed). RAIN will provide the make-up and professionals to apply it and a local salon to style your wig if you need it.
During the night of the event (in between the dance routine/numbers) you will walk through the crowd and interact with them, help sell raffle tickets and most importantly verify a bingo when it is called (hence your name).
BVDs Responsibilities:
- You will be responsible to provide your own costume, heels and wig/s.
- Some items might be purchased by RAIN but for the most part we request that you supply these – remember we are raising money.
- Throughout the practice season we always have group discussions about what costume ideas
- The costumes usually consist of one outfit but some like to do a wardrobe change between the first and second half of the show.
FYI: what you purchase can be a tax deduction and if you plan to do this please let Nathan Smith know so he can draft a letter for your tax records (don’t forget receipts will need to be included).
Practice Schedule:
- Practices are every Monday evening (6:00 to 7:00 PM), starting in August.
- We don’t expect you to attend all practices but we hope and ask that you do your best to make them and not try to miss too many.
- Every routine is filmed and posted on a private online channel so you can practice any time outside of Monday’s practices.
FYI: The first practice night is a dinner (provided by RAIN) where we get to know each other, go over expectations and talk costume ideas, theme, songs, etc.
RAIN Provides:
- Wig Styling - RAIN will supply a local salon to style your wig.
- Makeup - RAIN works with local makeup artists for the night of the event and any potential media/marketing events that lead up to the big night.
